reflections

We started off by choosing a song. We chose “Somethings Got A Hold On Me” by Etta James. We chose this song because we thought the instruments that we played would work very well and Mary really liked it.

We then planned our arrangement; we kept the same structure however we changed up the instrumentation a little bit. Ezra would be doing drums, Mary on lead vocals, Mia on guitar, Strahan on bass guitar, Ally on violin, and me (Aden) on alto saxophone. We all sang backup vocals. We changed the key of the song from C# to C major. We did this to make it easier to figure out all our parts and transpose the music for the alto saxophone.

After we made our arrangement we began practicing in class slowly making progress through the song and figuring out parts as we went.

Then on Wednesday the second of September we went to Mary’s house to record our song. Her dad very kindly helped us out. We were a little unprepared but it was okay because we recorded the parts separately and could perfect them. While we were recording Mary compiled a bunch of video footage. Then after we left she edited a music video together and it looks great!

We then showed it to Miss Bergerson and she really enjoyed it. then all i had to do was write this reflection and do my comparative analysis. This was made a little bit difficult because we didn’t change much other than the instrumentation. Overall I really enjoyed this assignment and recording the song was lots of fun.
